Izložba „Narodne nošnje kroz objektiv Toše Dabca” predstavlja izbor od trideset i dviju fo
tografija iz bogate ostavštine Toše Dabca, jednog od najistaknutijih zagrebačkih fotografa, koja
sadrži više od dvjesto tisuća negativa. Izložene fotografije pripadaju u tzv. Dabčeve folklorne
fotografije na kojima su prikazani motivi narodnih nošnji raznih krajeva Hrvatske, Bosne i Her
cegovine i Makedonije. Pri izboru fotografija, vodili smo se željom da prikažemo one koje nisu
često reproducirane i samim su tim manje poznate stručnjacima i ljubiteljima narodnih nošn
ji. Ipak, nismo mogli odoljeti izlaganju i nekih od poznatijih fotografija. Takve su, primjerice,
Makedonac i Žena iz Garešnice koja je na izložbi prikazana u drugom svjetlu. Izložena studijska
fotografija prikazuje kako je nastala fotografija koja je često publicirana pod nazivom Žena iz
Garešnice. To upućuje na činjenicu da je Dabac često bio angažiran za fotografiranje nošnji za
razne publikacije i folklorna događanja i da su na njima detalji narodnih nošnji promišljeno i
pomno odabrani.
The exhibition under the title “Folk costumes through the lens of Tošo Dabac” presents a selec
tion of thirty-two photographs from the rich legacy of Tošo Dabac, one of Zagreb’s most prom
inent photographers, which includes more than 200,000 negatives. The selected photographs
belong to Dabac’s folk photographs which depict the motifs of folk costumes from different
parts of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia. When selecting the photographs, we
were guided by wanting to show those that have not been reproduced frequently and which are
thus less known to experts and folk costume enthusiasts. Still, we could not resist choosing
some of the better-known photographs, too, such as the Makedonac (The Macedonian), and
Žena iz Garešnice (Woman from Garešnica), which is seen in a different light in the exhibition.
The exhibited photographic study shows the making of the photograph that is often published
as Žena iz Garešnice. This reveals that Dabac was often hired to photograph folk costumes for
various publications and folklore events, and that the details of the folk costumes in the photo
graphs are thoughtfully and carefully selected.
